The planned merger with Ration gives this direction a stronger technical foundation. Ration combines aquaculture experience with expertise in computer vision, artificial intelligence (AI) and automation. Members of its team have also helped develop VAKI technologies in the past. Bringing this knowledge together creates an exciting opportunity to move new ideas into practical use and strengthen the development of products from both companies.
Ration
Ration’s products show how these technologies can address everyday challenges. RationFEED detects uneaten pellets in tank outflows and uses that information to adjust feeding to appetite, helping reduce feed waste and support water quality. RationOVA applies computer vision to ova counting and quality inspection, with records that support traceability. Its development work also includes RationCOUNTER, which applies computer vision and AI to live fish counting.

Change in ownership
The next chapter follows Merck Animal Health’s decision, after careful consideration, to enter into a definitive agreement under which Hermann Kristjánsson, VAKI’s original owner and founder, will acquire all VAKI assets and operations.
The new leadership team will bring together both former VAKI leaders and new colleagues with fresh perspectives. Gunnar Óli Sölvason will lead the team as Managing Director. Gunnar brings an engineering background and senior leadership experience at Mikra, having previously served as Managing Director of Micro. His experience in seafood processing technology and operational management will support our focus on practical innovation, dependable products, and stronger customer service.
