Wellboat FishCounters

Accurate Counting, Full Control from the Bridge

VAKI Channel and Smolt Counters bring the same image-verified counting technology used across our range to wellboat conditions: high-capacity, pressurized delivery, gentle handling, and full remote control from the bridge, accurate to over 98%.

How VAKI Wellboat FishCounters work

The same VAKI counting technology used across our range, adapted for wellboat conditions.

1

Fish pass over the scanning area

An imaging line-scanning camera grabs a silhouette image of every fish as it passes over a light source, at the capacity your pumps and transport systems deliver.

2

Every silhouette is analysed and counted

VAKI computer vision analyses the silhouettes for counting and size estimation, and automatically records the images for later verification.

3

You get full control from the bridge

The count, the report and the images are available in real time. The Macro app lets you run the counter, view results and email the report from a phone or tablet anywhere on the ship.

Built for the bridge

Every wellboat counter shares these strengths

Accurate counting, image-verified

Every fish is imaged as it's counted, from 30–50g upward depending on model, so a delivery count can be checked after the fact, not just trusted on faith.

Weight and size estimation built in

Alongside the count, average weight and size distribution are measured automatically: one pass gives you number and size without extra handling.

Gentle handling, controlled dewatering

Excessive dewatering and gentle handling keep fish in good condition through the count, whatever the family or model.

Built for every commercial species

Salmon, cod, turbot, halibut, trout, tilapia, sea bass and bream all count reliably on the same range.

Choose the right family for your operation

Channel Counters for splitting, grading and delivery; Smolt Counters for high-capacity smolt transport, both built on the same VAKI counting technology.

Channel Counters

Built for accurate counting and size estimation of large volumes of live fish from 30g upward, at the high throughput of modern fish pumps and transport systems. The range comes in three versions: B and SB Counters for applications where fish don't need to be guided into a pipe after counting (e.g. barges pumping fish directly between cages), and Y Counters for large grading machines where fish leave the grader through a pipe up to 20″ in diameter.

  • Fish size range: 30g – 10kg
  • Standard counting widths: 1m, 1.3m, 1.9m, 2m, 3m
  • Models: SB-1000, SB-2000, SB-3000, B-1400, B-2000, B-3000, Y-1300, Y-1900

Smolt Counters

Purpose-built for the high-capacity fish transport systems on wellboats, the Smolt Counter works with large vacuum pumps and pressurized flow, counting up to 360,000 fish per hour in continuous flow. It uses the same counting technology as the rest of the VAKI range, so every count is verified with a recorded image, along with estimated average weight and size distribution.

  • Capacity: up to 360,000 fish per hour (continuous flow)
  • Fish size range: 30g – 900g (S-1400); 30g – 1.1kg (S-2100)
  • Standard counting widths: 1.4m, 2.1m
  • Models: S-1400, S-2100
